Ecuador - Galapagos - Fernandina - Espinoza Point

Fernandina, the youngest of the Galapagos Islands with an age of only a few hundred years, is a unique destination teeming with captivating wildlife. It's a highly sought-after place to visit when exploring the Galapagos archipelago. As you step ashore at Espinoza Point, you're often greeted by a lively chorus of sea lions eagerly announcing your arrival. From here, you can embark on an exploration of the island's natural wonders.

Worth seeing
Espinoza Point offers a continuous stream of exciting experiences from the moment you set foot on shore. The shallow bay is home to numerous endearing sea turtles, while the small tidal lakes are bustling with tiny fish, crabs, and mussels, all influenced by the ebb and flow of the tides. You might also spot rockfish and sea turtles in the largest of these lakes.

As you venture further into Espinoza Point, you'll be enchanted by the stunning mangrove trees and unique lava formations. Along the way, you'll encounter a vast colony of iguanas that call Fernandina home. The trail splits at a marker, branching in two directions for further exploration.

If you opt to go right, you'll encounter more iguana colonies. Be cautious not to disturb their eggs buried in the sand. Many sea lions, some with adorable pups, will be a common sight along this path. Keep an eye out for Galapagos cormorants, a rare bird species unique to the western Galapagos. These flightless birds are believed to number only a few hundred individuals.

Continuing on the trail, you'll reach a small bay and a sandy area where the remains of a sunken ship lie half-buried in the sand. Throughout your journey, be on the lookout for the diminutive Galapagos penguins, which roam the island in search of fish.
