Ecuador - Galapagos - Mosquera Island

Mosquera Island, though small and flat, offers incredible natural experiences that are truly unique to the Galápagos Islands. If you're ready for adventure, put on your hiking boots and prepare to explore this rugged and wild terrain.

Worth seeing
Hiking: While there are no established hiking trails on Mosquera Island, you can still explore its wild and unspoiled nature. Keep in mind that the terrain can be rough and uncomfortable at times. Be careful not to step on the vegetation or disturb the nests of lava gulls that are scattered around the island. These gulls are quite shy, and any disturbance could lead them to abandon their nests.

Sea Lions: Mosquera Island is home to one of the largest sea lion colonies in the Galápagos. These curious and friendly creatures may approach visitors closely. However, it's important to note that male sea lions can become aggressive, especially when protecting their small cubs. It's recommended not to approach them on your own, especially if there are young sea lions present.

Birdlife: The island boasts a rich variety of bird species, including many that are unique to the Galápagos Islands. It's no wonder the Galápagos is often called a mecca for ornithologists.

Iguanas: Peaceful iguanas can be found sunning themselves on the hot rocks all over the island.

Lava Crabs (Sally Lightfoot Crabs): These small, brightly colored crabs are a common sight on Mosquera Island. They can be seen swarming around the island, including on the lazy iguanas. While they may appear harmless, these crabs are incredibly fast and have earned the nickname "lightfoot."

Snorkeling and Diving: Don't hesitate to take a dip in the calm waters surrounding the island. It's a perfect spot for snorkeling and diving, offering the chance to observe a wide range of marine life, including turtles, moray eels, falcon fish, and, if you're lucky, even stingrays with their remarkable camouflage skills.

Mosquera Island promises an unforgettable experience for those willing to explore its unique and untamed landscapes and encounter its diverse wildlife.
