Norway - Svalbard - Longyearbyen

Longyearbyen is situated on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen in Svalbard and stands as the largest city within the group. With approximately 2,000 residents, it holds the distinction of being one of the world's northernmost settlements, located in the Arctic Ocean between the Norwegian mainland and the North Pole. Longyearbyen's unique allure stems from its dramatic surroundings, encompassed by permafrost, and its prolonged period of darkness from the end of October onwards for four months. The region is home to a significant polar bear population, leading it to be customary for inhabitants to carry rifles as a safety measure, but not indoors. Adding to the distinctive atmosphere, reindeer can be seen casually wandering the city streets, seamlessly blending into the urban fabric.
