Antarctica – King George Island
King George Island the largest of the South Shetland Islands, and as the name suggests, it is named after King George III. The island was discovered in 1819 by the British explorer, William Smith, who named the island. The island is now home to various species of seals, penguins and arctic birds. Several countries have located research stations on the island which investigate the flora and fauna.
