Ecuador - Galapagos - Isla Santiago - Buccaneer Cove
Isla Santiago, located centrally in the Galápagos archipelago, is a haven for those with an interest in volcanoes and geology. This uninhabited island boasts a surreal landscape dominated by petrified lava stretches as far as the eye can see. In the past, pirates used the island as a storage location for their supplies, and in 1835, Charles Darwin visited the island during his Galápagos expedition.
Isla Santiago is renowned for offering some of the best opportunities to observe the diverse wildlife of the Galápagos, including the captivating Galapagos fur seals, moray eels, squid, and colorful coral fish. The island boasts a total of seven fantastic diving spots, making it an ideal destination for underwater exploration, whether you're equipped with diving gear or just a snorkel.
Buccaneer Cove, steeped in pirate lore, is a fascinating cave system that once served as a hideout for pirates. During his visit to the Galápagos, Charles Darwin spent nine days living among the wild iguanas in these caves, studying their life and development. Today, the caves are home to a diverse array of incredible animals that visitors are likely to encounter during their exploration of the island.
Climate
The Galápagos Islands, located on the equator, can be visited year-round. There are two distinct seasons. The warmest season occurs from December to May, characterized by high sunshine and clear skies. The slightly cooler season falls between June and November due to southerly winds, which bring the cold ocean current of the Humboldt Current northward, resulting in colder sea temperatures.
