Luggage on a flight

Most airlines allow between 20-23 Kg of checked baggage per person. The number of pieces of luggage and weight depends on the airline and the type of ticket you have purchased, and the exact number will be stated on your flight ticket. You can also find more information about baggage rules on the airline's website.

Hand luggage

Most airlines allow approx. 5-10 Kg baggage allowance per person. Typically, hand luggage must have specific dimensions, and the exact dimensions and weight will be stated on the airlines website.

The EU has introduced rules that limit the amount of liquid that air travellers can carry in their hand luggage. The rules apply to all air passengers travelling from EU airports and checked baggage is not covered by the rules. In carry-on baggage, you are only allowed to bring liquids or liquids in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres. You may carry more than one container in your hand luggage, but no more than can be contained in a transparent, resealable bag with a capacity of one litre. Only one of these bags per passenger is permitted.

When EU regulations refer to liquids, gels and liquid substances, they include more than just water and soft drinks.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Beverages such as water, juice, soup and syrup
  • Perfume, cologne and similar
  • Semi-liquid substances such as shampoo and toothpaste
  • Oils and creams, for example skin lotion or sun cream
  • The contents of pressurised containers, such as deodorants, shaving foam and the like
  • Mixtures of solids and liquids

Note that certain items are exempt from EU regulations. For example, baby food, medicine and the like, which must be brought for use on the flight in quantities larger than 100 millilitres. However, you should be prepared for security staff to ask for proof of authenticity.

MyCruise recommends that you ensure that liquids and liquids are placed in your checked baggage as much as possible. You can find out more about the rules for hand luggage on the website of the relevant airline.

Luggage to the USA

Due to security checks when travelling to the USA, all checked baggage cannot be checked. In the event of a subsequent insurance claim due to damaged baggage, the insurance will only cover as long as this is complied with.

Flight check-in

You can check in online for your flight from 48 hours to 1 hour before departure, depending on the airline. When you check in online, you have the option to choose your seat (for a fee with some airlines). MyCruise is not able to help with seat reservations.

Online check-in is also available even if you have baggage that needs to be checked in. Baggage tags can be printed at the self-service kiosks at the airport.

Below you will find a list of most of the airlines we work with and the times when online check-in is available;

Delayed/damaged baggage

If you have lost your luggage or it has been damaged en route, it is very important that you file a report at the airport.

You need to contact the handling company that has handled the flight you are travelling on. You will typically find the handling company at the baggage claim or in the arrivals hall. The report will include a reference number and a phone number that you can contact later to check the status of your baggage.

Arriving at the airport

MyCruise recommends that you arrive at the airport no later than 2 hours before departure. The exact time will be stated on your flight ticket, and you can also find more information on the airline's website.
Please note that if you do not show up for your flight, the remaining part of your flight will automatically be cancelled by the airline.

Passports

It is always your responsibility to bring the necessary papers and documentation with you on your holiday, including passport and visa. Your passport must be valid at least 6 months after your return date. Please check that the name in your passport and booking reservation are identical. Please note that MyCruise charges a fee if the name in the booking reservation needs to be changed.

Children and infants must have their own passport. Children travelling with someone other than their parents and/or with parents with a different surname, please contact us before departure. MyCruise is not responsible for the consequences of missing or invalid passports. Travellers may be denied entry if the passport is damaged.

Please note that special rules apply to the USA, including for transit bookings. See information about travelling to the USA here

Duty-free goods

Due to the security rules regarding items in hand luggage, you should be aware that even if the items have been checked after passing through the security system and are sealed, they may be confiscated if you are in transit at a European airport before arriving at your final destination. This may be because the relevant airports have stricter security rules in place than the common minimum requirements.
