Ecuador - Galapagos - Egas Port

Egas Port, also known as Puerto Egas, is a captivating destination on Santiago Island in the Galapagos Islands, renowned for its natural beauty and abundant wildlife. Whether you're interested in swimming, snorkeling, or exploring the island's unique ecosystems, Egas Port has much to offer.

Worth seeing
Egas Port boasts two remarkable hiking trails that allow you to fully experience the island's wonders. The first trail meanders along the coastline to the "Fur Seal Grottos," extensive caves where elusive fur seals seek shelter from the sun. As you explore, you may also encounter sea lions and iguanas foraging in the tidal pools.

The second trail leads inland to the "salt mine volcano." This brief hike takes you to the rim of a saltwater lagoon that was once a volcanic crater. Attempts were made to extract salt from this area, but logistical challenges impeded the process. The lagoon, now home to protected flamingos, is not accessible to visitors. During your walk, you'll encounter several tidal pools teeming with turtles, rays, and fish, forming unique and fascinating ecosystems. Don't forget to explore "Darwin's toilet," named for the lake's filling and emptying cycles through underground tunnels.

Egas Port offers an abundance of wildlife encounters, both on land and in the sea. Dive into the ocean to swim with rays and sea lions or engage in some snorkeling to explore the underwater world. The island is also a habitat for various rare bird species, including Darwin's beloved finches. Keep an eye out for the elusive Galapagos hawk, known to grace the island's skies with its majestic presence. A visit to Egas Port promises an unforgettable experience immersed in the unique natural beauty of the Galapagos Islands.
