The port city of Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital, lies on the Atlantic Ocean and is a bustling metropolis with 1.3 million inhabitants. The capital is a true cultural gem, featuring many beautiful buildings and colonial-era architecture. For those wanting to dip their toes, the city also offers lovely beaches along the famous coastal road La Rambla. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes, and when the sun sets, the city's nightlife comes alive with tango and festive evening hours.

Worth seeing
It is highly recommended to spend a morning in the old town, Ciudad Vieja. Churches, museums, and theaters sit side by side with exciting shops. A visit can successfully end with a lunch at the market – be sure to try a meat dish, as Uruguay is said to serve the best meat in the world.

If you need some peace and quiet, La Rambla calls – the 20 km long coastal road offers beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and is ideal for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and skaters.
